What exactly is a mystery shopper?

A mystery shopper is someone contracted to pose as a customer and report on the quality of service received. The mystery shopper is given a specific objective, such as purchasing a particular product or asking certain questions. A mystery shopper does not reveal their identity as a shopper. A mystery shopper does their best to blend in, and not stand out so that their identity is not revealed.

I received a large cashiers check or money order with the name ACE Mystery shopping before I did a shop, with instructions to send a portion of it back. Is this for real?

No! This is a check cashing scam. We do not send cashier’s checks, nor do we send payments before the shops have been completed. If it sounds too good to be true, remember, it probably is. If you have any concerns, please feel free to give us a call! If you receive any email communication with a staff member from our company, make SURE they are using an @acemysteryshopping.com email address. We do not use any other form of email, such as Gmail, etc.

How much does it pay?

Shopper pay is different for each client and/or type of shop. You are always reimbursed for any purchases that are required to make, in order to complete the shop. The pay ranges between $5-50 per shop, depending on the shop type, difficulty, length of the survey, etc. The higher paying shops may require special video equipment or the shopper may be required to meet specific demographics.

Why do you need my social security number?

We actually do not need it right now. If you are not comfortable with giving that to us online you can skip that question. However, if you do make more than $599 in a year, we are required by law to send you a 1099 form for tax purposes. If you reach that point, we will have to ask you to provide that to us at that time.

Why do you ask for my height, weight, ethnicity?

If you are uncomfortable with answering those questions, you may skip them. However, you might be offered more opportunities if you answer them! On occasion, but not often, we have to look for shoppers that meet specific demographics. If you do not answer those questions, you will still be eligible for most shops. For example We have had a client request shoppers of a certain ethnicity to see if they were being discriminated against. Leaving those questions unanswered will not disqualify you for most assignments, however.

How does it all work?

Once you have registered, you will receive an email with your login information. If you do not see it right away, check your spam folder.

You can log in any time and check for shops in your area. We will also email you as soon as we post one near you, so you don’t have to log in all of the time. Once you find a shop that interests you, you can request it online. Act quickly, because we assign shops on a first come, first serve basis.

If it’s awarded to you, you should read the guidelines for the shop, review the survey before visiting the location. You just need to make sure you complete it prior to the due date. After you submit your shop, our editors review the shop and send it to the client. We pay monthly at the end of the following month for all shops completed the prior month.

How and when do you pay?

We pay by direct deposit each month for shops completed the prior month. Deposits will go out before the last day of the following month. For first time users, you will receive an email instructing you to set up the direct deposit at the time that it goes out.

How do I know if my shopper registration has been approved?

You will receive an email within a few minutes of registering. Please check your spam folder if you don’t receive it right away.

Will I become an employee of ACE Mystery Shopping?

No. All of the shoppers we contract are independent contractors, who are responsible for their own tax records. We do provide 1099’s to shoppers if their earnings exceed $599.00 per the calendar year. Being an independent contractor gives you the flexibility to pick and choose which types of shops interest you.

What happens if I am contracted for a project and cannot complete it?

If a shopper cannot complete a project, they must decline online in the “Action” column of their opportunities list prior to our client due date. We use a shopper grading system and make notes of shoppers’ reliability. You always want to make sure you contact us to keep that good contractor relationship. If you miss a shop without letting us know, it will result in your account being suspended and the inability to be able to do shops in the future. What do you look for in a shopper?

  • Proper spelling, grammar, and sentence structure.
  • A detailed narrative that explains the questions asked in the survey.
  • Prompt submissions of your reports.
  • A spotless record – Shoppers who keep open communications with ACE office staff regarding their due dates will have positive notes entered in their shopper profile. These positive notes help the scheduler decide who will be the best shopper for future shops.
  • Shoppers who cancel shops repeatedly or do not respond toACE office staff communication will not be eligible for future contracting opportunities.

Is there any way to become a “preferred” shopper?

Yes! Shoppers who are reliable, responsive to ACE office staff communications, and prove they have excellent writing skills will be given the first choice on some of our elite opportunities.

Mystery Shopping Do’s & Dont’s

  • ACT like a regular customer so that you blend in and are not detected as a mystery shopper
  • Be friendly & courteous
  • Quietly and discreetly observe
  • DON’T draw attention yourself
  • DON’T make notes while doing your shop
  • DON’T offer advice to the staff on how to do their job. Simply OBSERVE.
  • DON’T be rude to the staff
  • DON’T complain during your shop.
  • DON’T take obvious photos. If photos are required, do this discreetly.
  • DON’T be overly negative or emotional. Be objective and factual.

The wrong way (Opinionated and emotional): I could not believe how dirty the restroom was. It was appalling that a guest would be expected to use this disgusting restroom.

The right way (fact based). The restroom floor was dirty and sticky. The toilet bowl was stained. There was strong odor.
